O jee, o jeminee ons timmermenneke is ziek.
En nu?
Nu ligt de bouw van de nieuwe slee voor Santa, dus stil en dat al bijna 3 weken. Ook het bijwerken van de blog loopt nu enorm achter.
Gaan we het dan nog redden om voor de Kerst de nieuwe slee af te hebben?
Dat hoop ik wel. Als het timmermenneke ook maar een klein beetje energie heeft, is hij de laatste paar dagen, toch nog even met de slee bezig. Het schiet nu niet echt op, maar er gebeurd tenminste nog wat.
Wat?
Dat laten we jullie zo snel mogelijk weten! Belooft!

Is there a Santa Claus?
A question asked many times by many children and even adults is;
Is there a Santa Claus?
Answering that isn't as easy as just giving a hearty YES, although that should actually be enough. It's pretty obvious to Santa's little carpenters and the elves, Mr. Bear, Rudolph, and the reindeer that Santa Claus exists!
And then we thought back to the letter that, many years ago, more than 100 years ago, a little girl who dared to write to a then-renowned newspaper.
Dear Editor,
I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say that there is no Santa Claus. Papa says "If you see it in the Sun, it is so." Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?
The newspaper's editor-in-chief did not want to give a straightforward answer to this question and left it to a well-known columnist to come up with a good answer.
Virginia,
Your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except what they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds.
All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to our life its highest beauty and joy.
Alas! How dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.
Not believe in Santa Claus? You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your Papa to hire men to watch all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove?
Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see.
Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders that are unseen and unseeable in the world.
You tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, or even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernatural beauty and glory beyond.
Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else as real and abiding.
No Santa Claus? Thank God he lives and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, maybe 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the hearts of children.

De afwerking van de glijders - Santas nieuwe slee

Het koetswerk is, op een paar kleine klusjes na, zo goed als af. De boeg heeft zijn vorm, daar veranderd niets meer aan, dus nu is het tijd om de glijders te voorzien van de boog voorop.
Zoals jullie gezien hebben in het eerste deel, het maken van de glijders, zijn deze opgebouwd uit twee planken die op elkaar gelijmd werden. Dus ook de boog die we gaan maken, wordt uit twee verlijmde stukken gemaak.
Uit een reststukje hardboard hebben we de vorm gemaakt als mal voor de boog. Met deze mal kunnen we nu de boog overzetten op de houten delen.

Kleine klusjes - grote klusjes - Deel 2 - Santas nieuwe slee
19 augustus
Schuren, schaven, schilderen en dan laten drogen, daar gaat aardig wat tijd in zitten, voor je het weet is er weer een week voorbij.
Het zijn die kleine dingen die het doen. Die vreten tijd.
Een van die klusjes is het zorgen voor een tweetal uitlaten om het water in de slee af te voeren.
De slee krijgt twee uitlaten.
Eerst boren we helemaal achter in de bak een tweetal gaten en daar komen dan de twee aluminium pijpjes in die ervoor zorgen dat het water weg kan. Ze liggen er al bij, zie je ze?

10 augustus
Kleine klusjes, grotere klusjes, ze moeten gedaan worden met het handje, we hebben geen klusjesmachine waarin we ze kunnen stoppen.
Veel is schuren, schaven, bijwerken met plamuur ( het vullen van gaatjes zonder praatjes ), het maken van kleine onderdelen en in de grondverf zetten.
Zoals jullie wel gezien hebben, staat de slee er tot nu toe nog aardig gepokt en gevlekt bij, alsof hij al jaaaaren op zee is geweest. Niet dat er in de nachtelijke hemel veel pokken rondzwemmen, maar je begrijpt wel wat ik bedoel.
